The 21st century will see increased levels of migration world-wide, particularly in the face of a warming world undergoing complex climatic changes, transforming old and new mobility trends. At the same time, the renaissance of nationalistic politics and the emergence of border security as big business across the world, means that border control is becoming more militarized, and the lines between private and public interests are increasingly blurred. This, in turn, greatly impacts the landscapes and opportunities of migration. You are hereby invited to a public seminar derived from a forthcoming book on Routledge, in which the authors, April Humble, Martin Lemberg-Pedersen and Richa Kumar, examine:
In what form securitized borders are emerging across the globe and how border security developments are overlapping with climate hotspots.
The political economy and financialization of the border security industry as well as how blurred boundaries, migration control and displacement-dynamics trace back to colonial times.
The actors within today’s security field, focusing on the vectors, and trajectories of security professionals inside the border industry.
|9:30 – 9:45||Coffee and welcome|
|9:45 – 10:00||Introduction to the book project|
|10:00 – 10:45||April Humble, Researcher, Climate Service Center Germany: Border security meets climate change and migration|

Writing has always been a key discipline to master within political sciences and humanities. Today writing articles and getting them published is more important than ever. Be it for the PhD-student using a collection of peer-reviewed and published articles as basis for the PhD, or for the young PhD aiming at a university career.
