Nine member states among the 137 member states of 1975 have been chosen as places in which to conduct research in the archives: 

  • South Africa (member 1946-56) and Ghana (associate member 1954; member 1958)
  • India (member 1946), China (member 1946) and Japan (member 1951)
  • Federal Republic of Germany (member 1951) and USSR (member 1954)
  • USA (member 1946) and Brazil (member 1946)
  • Indonesia (member 1950)
