Title: The Politics of Representation in Danish film: Struggles between Erasure and Presence
04.05.2018 kl. 10.15 - 12.45
"The Politics of Representation in Danish film: Struggles between Erasure and Presence” (working title) is part of the Velux-funded research project A Study into Experiences and Resistance to Racialization in Denmark (otherwise known as SERR). Tess’ research examines the Danish film-industry with an emphasis on the production-side of filmmaking. Negotiating the ways in which minority-representations are guided by politics, performed through various acts at key moments behind the cameras, and result in particular (re)productions of race, class, sexuality, gender, ability and age, Tess’ project shifts the emphasis in Danish studies of representation from product to process. Through close engagement with industry-professionals as well as observations on film-sets, in editing rooms and at strategic industry-events, Tess has followed film-productions from the finishing stages of script-writing into the final stages of filming, in efforts to answer the question; How is representation understood, (re)configured and produced in Danish film?
Please register for the event to Marianne Høgsbro no later than 1 May 2018.
The pre-defence starts with a presentation by Tess Skadegård Thorsen followed by the discussant's comments and an open discussion. The pre-defence will be in English.
